Matthew West has been named Billboard’s Top Christian Songwriter of 2021. The accolade adds to a long list of achievements for West this year, including ASCAP Christian Songwriter of the Year, numerous multi-week #1s, and a packed tour schedule. West began 2021 with the six-week #1, “Truth Be Told”; his second #1 off his Brand New album. This summer West celebrated the eight-week #1 “My Jesus”; the debut single from rising star Anne Wilson, which West co-wrote. West’s third single from his Brand New album ascended the Christian charts the first week of November, marking the fourth consecutive #1 as an artist for Matthew and tying him for most #1s as a solo artist. West secured the top spot on the Christian charts for the entire month of November; ending the month with Tasha Layton’s first #1, “Look What You’ve Done”.
Matthew West’s most recent release, We Need Christmas, features classic holiday standards along with new original songs, including “We Need Christmas”, “The Hope of Christmas” and “Gobble Gobble”, which have all been featured on the Christian charts this holiday season. Currently, West has six singles that he co-wrote on the Christian Charts; “Look What You’ve Done” – Tasha Layton (3), “My Jesus” – Anne Wilson (8), “Weary Traveler”– Jordan St. Cyr (13), “I Still Believe In Christmas” – Anne Wilson (20), “We Need Christmas” – Matthew West (34), “Walking Free” – Micah Tyler (37). Matthew’s other chart achievements include the Top 5 Casting Crowns single “Scars In Heaven”, the Top 20 single “Mean Girls” from Leanna Crawford and more.
West launched his podcast, The Matthew West Podcast, in August 2020, which has over 1.5 million downloads to date. Matthew is currently on his We Need Christmas Tour, which runs through December 19th. West will cap off 2021 with the much anticipated virtual live event, “We Need Christmas –Live From Nashville” which will air eight times beginning December 21st.
